One of our newest pieces is for a local baker Sara, the founder and owner of The Bake Lab. Sara crafts exquisite cakes from her Sheffield based lab-esque kitchen, often filled with unusual, new flavours or adorned with an array of flowers and fanciful decoration.
Sara asked us to develop a new look and feel for her brand, which she could use in the wild when selling her creations at markets, supplying to weddings and online.
We created a flexible identity, consisting of a master logo which works perfectly with complimentary roundels and stamps. We wanted to give the mark a feel of science, without the stereotypical science cues, whilst still maintaining a premium and professional edge. Domaine Sans provides just that; a balance between a serif and -sans. The icon mark, sitting alongside the word-mark is an abstract take on the classic slice of cake, with a glittering almost glacial appearance.
The original concept featured natural and flowing patterns to compliment and offer a feeling of home-made texture and care..this quickly turned into an adaptation of the textures frequently seen on the side of Sara’s marble cakes; a truly own-able and bespoke finishing touch.
We also created Instagram overlays to formalise and strengthen the lab’s Instagram offering – this creates a cohesive story throughout the grid, interspersed with a mixture of glorious food photography and branded equities.
We were keen to avoid an overtly feminine pallet. The soft navy creates a premium feel, which can also be taken seriously – The Bake Lab means business.
